DCET Focuses in Literacy, and Leadership Linking Families to Community Resources

​DCET acts as one-stop-shop. At our Community Learning Centers LA ESCUELITA (The Little School), we offer multigenerational educational, cultural and community initiatives in partnership with the City of Irving, the Dallas and Irving school districts, corporations, mentors and volunteers. We, connect and support, families to address challenges so that they can reach their goals through Literacy, Leadership and Linskills, becoming US citizens, and having them learn about being leaders of this country will results in After graduation some students become facilitators of our programs and education is passed on to first, second and third generations. Second generation high school students become tutors of parents learning other language and in return, DCET mentors them with prep-college workshops assisting them to enter college.

Our Vision

We see LA ESCUELITA of DCET community learning centers all over locally, regionally and nationally.  Also a dedicated team of professional staff teaching ESL, GED, Citizenship, Computer & Spanish literacy classes for immigrant families in tis majority providing them with solutions to their Educational needs.

To promote LITERACY and LEADERSHIP among immigrant families in Dallas- Fort Worth while LINKING them to community resources through English literacy training, youth mentoring and family supportive services, and to do so with respect for diversity, equity and inclusion

As an immigrant herself, founder of DCET understood the needs of the immigrant community 

Our Story

In 1995 DCET Founder Elvia Wallace-Martinez designed DCET as a Spanish Radio Talk show called DEBES CREER EN TI (Believe in Yourself), and also a 2-two TV segments, and 52 newspaper columns in Spanish about virtues/family values. These initiatives in 1998, then turned into a  non-profit organization housing Literacy and Community and Mentoring programs for Hispanic/Latino families in its majority. With limited funding and working out of her personal finances, DCET Founder started DCET and continues to serve the community as a volunteer.  Her programs have helped thousands of students enter the workforce field while preventing them from crime and welfare dependency.
