Josie Flores,
 FAMA Program Director

Ms. Flores is a great role model for the FAMA students, the  youth participants acts as mentors to an older person (mentee).

FAMA students have the opportunity to build skills in self-advocacy and conflict resolution including: music and dance activities requiring participants to work with both adult leaders and peers in planning, organizing, leading, and accounting for public presentation(s) of arts/cultural event(s); and Junior DCET Board participation.  FAMA inspires positive interests and goals and help students maintain school attendance and classroom performance.

FAMA Mission

Mission: To increase understanding among DCET’s program participants of the value of leadership and mentoring and how to interact successfully in a variety of social situations within their new environment

A unique win/win relationship: while parents and grandparents study literacy, FAMA children sing, dance and play musical instruments in an adjoining area. Through these activities, children and youth learn to process, analyze and respond to sensory information through performing movements in artistic expression while having a safe and positive environment while parents study.

FAMA means:

Mentoring, Tutoring, Classes of Singing, Dancing and Playing Accordion & Piano
